We’ve just discovered a brilliant internet radio station called Vintage Obscura that plays a cross section of tunes across many genres. As it says on their twitter here all tracks are: more than 25 years old and have fewer than 30,000 views on YouTube.
This is a tune that is just playing now Lillian Allen with Unnatural Causes. Wonderful stuff. Do yourself a favour and tune in here.
At the time of the passing of the great Lee Perry (“Our musical Papa” as the song goes) we posted up his very ahead of its time (1968) version of Burt Walter‘s Honey Love where he places Burt’s vocals played in reverse over the backing track. So bonkers it actually works!
We’ve just found the original version by sheer chance which was by The Drifters. Another case of “Well we never knew that”…
This Sunday evening the 15th August 2021 at 2300 UTC (Midnight UK time) is a transmission from WSFR (Radio Swiss Family Robinson) via WMRI on 9395 kHz. Expect an hour of island related tunes and also a mix from One Deck Pete called “All washed up”. The mix includes tracks by Le Emjaén, Kingbastard, WES WAX, Scientist and islandman. Here’s a mono recording off an online SDR earlier today of the second in the series of One Deck Pete’s “Tunes to cheer you up” which was transmitted on Free Radio Skybird via Channel 292 on 6070 kHz. The tune is Ceremony by Mikhail Ovez, the Mark Gaetani Remix on Zedanubi Records. The comments “Why ain’t it in dolby stereo?” and “It isn’t even a clear recording so why bother?” don’t count as it came to us here via the ionosphere on those there short waves.
