Do you enjoy shopping? Do you love bargains? We do here at Weeds and will be tuned in this weekend for the return of the supermarket themed station KMRT in the imaginary stations series. It’s a back to school shortwave special too!

Experience the thrill of a bustling supermarket live on shortwave this Sunday 18th September 2022 via WRMI on 9395 kHz at 2200 hrs UTC. There will be lots of blue light specials, bargains galore and also an appearance of “A cleaner required to Aisle 5 please” a mix from One Deck Pete featuring tunes by George Feledichuk, Guerrilla Biscuits, We Buy Records, Horace Andy and Eric Hilton.

Just to remind you all that on Sunday 11th September 2022 at 1000 UTC (11am UK time) there’s the return of the ethereal station Radio Lavalamp upon those shortwaves of ours.

Expect some chiilled and left-field tunes throughout the hour and at 27 minutes in there’s One Deck Pete with The Purple Nucleus of Creation 005 a mix of an alternative nature with tunes by Fila Brazillia, Past Palms and 100th Monkey. Fingers crossed all stops will be pulled out this weekend via WRMI with the broadcast of TOOTS vs WELK. This programme in the Imaginary stations series will be a showdown of music from Toots Thielemans in the left hand corner and the great Lawrence Welk in the right. The transmission will be on air on 9395 kHz from 2200 utc on Sunday 28th August 2022. Tune in for a great musical encounter!

At 16 mins in there’s One Deck Pete with A Harmaccordian mix Kimmo Pohjonen & Frane Milčinski, Les Negresses and Errol Dunkley featuring Dreadful Julio amongst others.

And for a Monday afternoon here’s a nice downtempo number from Aux25 called No Turning Back (Adham Shaikh Remix).

Here’s the studio audio from last night’s KTAB, the latest in the Imaginary Radio Stations series transmitted to the world via the valves and wires of WRMI.

At 24 minutes into the recording is One Deck Pete’s “I’ve got those broadcast blues”. Here’s the full track listing of the 15 minute mix complete with the Bandcamp sites the tracks were obtained from. Do check them out as there were a lot of interesting stuff on the labels, Death is not the end feature tons of tunes from Jamaican Doo Wop to Pirate Radio Adverts from the Acid House days and as for Canary Records, there’s a truck load to explore there!

Tune into X-Raydio tomorrow at 2200 UTC (2300 U.K. time) on Channel 292 on 3955 kHz for a show features a piece on Bone Music by Stephen Coates from The Real Tuesday Weld and also a couple of flexi discs mixes.

The first is at 31.55 mins in from Shane Quentin of The Garden of Earthly Delights and at 46 mins one by One Deck Pete called We Love You Lyntone. Tune into Channel 292 here if you haven’t a shortwave radio for something a bit different!

Dub gardening from around the world

Cheers to our good mate in Germany Phil Harmony for sending us these two pictures this morning of a suprise he got when he cut a tomato this morning for breakfast. We only found out through the magic of the internet that this is called Vivipary and “occurs in overripe fruit when seeds have reached maturity and the natural hormone, abscisic acid (ABA), is reduced.” Well you learn something new every day!

And also a pic from a while ago of what he found in his kitchen sink after coming back from a ten day holiday. Big up the guerilla pepper!

Tomorrow evening Wednesday 9th March 2022 at 5pm UK time there will be a transmission to Europe of The Scented Garden (a nod to gardeners and gardening music lovers everywhere) on 3955 kHz. If you haven’t a shortwave radio at 5pm tomorrow tune in here. After the broadcast the audio will be posted up here.

At the start of the programme is a 15 minute mix from Weeds’ own One Deck Pete called “A tribute to council gardeners everywhere” featuring tracks by Dudley Perkins,
