A big thanks to The Rhythm Doctor for playing Madtone‘s WP1 on the radio earlier this week. If you want to hear a great show which plays all the way through from ambient, dub, jazz to funk you should tune into The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on a Monday morning from 9-11am (UK Time) on IDA Radio, Tallinn here. Cheers for Gerry Hectic for letting us know about the tune being played as we were on a 100 bus to Rye at that time.
The Rhythm Doctor also played a great one from Rockers Hi-Fi called Ghia a few tunes after. Chilled, dubby and then into some nice beats.
We were listening to The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room yesterday on IDA Radio, Tallinnhere and alongside some great music as usual there were a couple of tracks with a connection to the great Junior Vasquez played.
The Rhythm Doc mentioned that he actually visited the Sound Factory and even went into the legendary DJ booth come studio/kitchen/living room/potting shed etc (we tried to replicate said booth at one of our Steroid Abuse nights many moons ago but failed.)
What is brilliant is we have now (thanks to RD’s research) tracked down Junior’s new career and it looks like he’s a tree surgeon. We also saw on the small print (below) that “If it’s not on the list just ask we might do it” whish looks like he may have changed his policy when it came to playing requests. “Can you play one for my Aunty Maureen who’s in hospital with an ingrowing toenail. We hope she gets better soon”.
There’s a good chance it may be a namesake but we hope not! Imagine the stories he could tell you while he’s having a tea break.
Big shout to The Rhythm Doctor for playing this wonderful tune by Johnny Cool on his excellent IDA Radio show Waiting Room earlier this week (at 49 minutes in with extra dubbed out bits by RD himself) called Long Time Ago and what a great tune it is!
Also reggae related, by accident this evening we found two hours of The Rootsman talking to the late great Augustus Pablo. Welll worth listening to, all on pirate radio WKLR Radio in Bradford from 1992. Reggae (like radio) never disappoints. Ever.
Cheers to our good friend The Rhythm Doctor for sending us pictures of his garden in Tallinn, Estonia presently covered with snow and don’t it look great! The pic above is Hortensia (aka Hydrangea) which looks like an upside down chandelier.
The above are three apple trees in a row and a cherry tree to the left of them and the great shot below is a smart looking BBQ oven (with a hat on) standing guard outside the woodshed.
And finally below some blackcurrant and redcurrant bushes. We love these photos!
And Chris picked this apt tune from the great John Holt called “Winter World of Love”, the original performed by some chap called Engelbert Humperdink (the song was written by Barry Mason and also Les Reed, the man responsible for the Radio Northsea theme tune “Man of Action.”)
And here’s a great little mix of the featured tune by the great DJ Algoriddim check his other mixes here.
And not forgetting (below) this week’s edition of The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on IDA Radio Tallin a wonderful Monday morning show (with reggae, chilled, electronica, jazz and all sorts) from 9 – 11am UK time here. Big shout to Chris RD for playing an extended mix of Jasmine Tutum & Madtone‘s Return To The Branches at 26 mins in and also 1 hour and 10 mins in, their Earth Citizen track. Cheers Chris!
If you fancy sending us a pic of your garden in the snow send us a pic to onedeckpete at gee mail dot com plus a tune of your choice. Cheers!
Big shout to our very good friend The Rhythm Doctor (of The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on IDA Radio – Tallinn on a Monday morning here) for telling us about this excellent collection on Bandcamp from Don Cavalli.
It’s called Don Cavalli chants down babylon and what an EP it is! There’s 4 top tracks including this above, his interpretation of The Wailers Fire Fire AKA Bunny Wailer’s Love Fire. We implore you to listen to this EP and make a purchase.
We had some strange old weather today, all was looking bright until about 3pm when it pelted it down and then at about 4pm the sun came out again and we got the Garlic and Shallots in the raised bed. We’ve tried to make it pest proof after all of the shenanigans this weekend too. The metal protection was the shelving from one of those mini greenhouses we had years ago.
The beds have had the added benefit of the soil improver a few weeks ago and we’ll add some compost to the top of them as well sometime this week. Fingers crossed the Shallots do well next year. We didn’t have a bad year with the Garlic but we’ve love to know the secret to getting more out of them. Anyone out there know any good tips for getting decent Garlic in raised beds? Any ideas appreciated!
And news just in is that This is a music show 135 is up on the cloud. Cheers Dazman for posting this up! This week’s show includes Ernest Freeman, a tribute to Richard H Kirk, a steel band cover of The Beatles and some great Reggae as always. So if you love decent music and also love the medium of shortwave radio listen to the below.
And talking of radio shows, tune to The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on IDA Radio (Tallinn) tomorrow morning at 8am UK time for 3 hours of the best tunes across lots of genres. Link to the live link here tommorow morning and you want to choose the Tallinn station. Here’s last week’s show by the way. Radio is still the way forward!
There won’t be many words in this post just mainly pictures from the garden earlier. The first (below) is the result of the random throwing around of seed when receiving them from ebay (This is possibly from a wild flower mix). With the flowers we very rarely mark out seed drills and stick down plant labels, it’s straight out of the bag and onto the bed.
And the second is a rather strange and wonderful freshly picked tomato. It seems a shame to eat it!
And the third is the super tall Sunfower looking down on us ready to flower. This one next to the garage is nearly 10 foot. Bonkers.
And on in the background whilst we were writing this post was this week’s Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on IDA Radio Tallinn (every Monday from 8-11 UK time and archived here). There’s lots of musical goodness on the show as udsual and at the start some works from one Vladimir Tarasov teased in and out of other downtempo gear. A idea “stick it on the stereo” midweek summer evening listen.
