WP1 on the Waiting Room

A big thanks to The Rhythm Doctor for playing Madtone‘s WP1 on the radio earlier this week. If you want to hear a great show which plays all the way through from ambient, dub, jazz to funk you should tune into The Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on a Monday morning from 9-11am (UK Time) on IDA Radio, Tallinn here. Cheers for Gerry Hectic for letting us know about the tune being played as we were on a 100 bus to Rye at that time.

The Rhythm Doctor also played a great one from Rockers Hi-Fi called Ghia a few tunes after. Chilled, dubby and then into some nice beats.

More from Tallinn

We’ve just heard from The Rhythm Doctor who sent us some pictures of wild garlic last post. “We saw this strange flower the other day in the same area as the garlic”, it turns out to be the common toothwort.

Turns out the plant is a bit of a parasite “The genus produces no chlorophyll and parasitises host trees, often hazel, beech and walnut, to acquire nutrients” more here. Cheers RD that is one strange looking plant!

Seven seven inch singles selection

One of the good things in life is looking through a pile of seven inch singles and not thinking too much about the tunes and putting together a mix (in the old days it would be on one of those cassette tape things). Below is a quick one put together this evening after looking through a couple of piles of records that haven’t been played for a while.

We were influenced by a post by The Rhythm Doctor on Facebook about a recent mix of his from 7” singles for MOJO Estonia and Sugar B‘s “supermix” show on Charisma FM 87.8 Mhz where all sorts of reggae singles are played in any order.

Here’s the first Seven seven inch singles selection in the pot and here’s the tracklisting:
Jah Cure – Longing for version/drop leaf rhythm
Alton Ellis & The Flames – Ain’t that loving you
Ras Ibuna/Village Bunch – Diverse Doctrine Version
Pablove Black – Chaunting Dread
Anthony B – Stop Fight
Jah Woosh – Shine Eye Gal Version Part 2
Yabby You/King Tubby’s – Chant Down babylon Version

We welcome other mixes and don’t worry too much about the genres just put them on and if they sound good…

The more you know, the less you understand

Tune into KNOW from Imaginary Stations on Saturday December 14th 2024 at 1200 hrs UTC on 6160 kHz and repeated on Sunday December 15th 2024 at 1000/1400 hrs UTC on 6160 kHz and also at 2100 UTC on 3975 kHz via Shortwave Gold.

They will be imparting some very deep knowledge on the show, answers to questions like “What is the meaning of life?”, “Can you speak Venusian?” and “Why are Jaffa Cakes known as a cakes rather than biscuits?” and bringing you songs that you may or may not know. At 16.15 in there’s a mix from One Deck Pete called “Have you got the Knowledge?” featuring Avmus, Deezz, Ernest Wilson, Capstone and Gregory Isaacs.

Big shout to The Rhythm Doctor for the KNOW related classic below and to Jesse Yuen the other week for reminding us how good it is. Below that, an Observer classic with a brilliant dub. Seeing is knowing and all that.

Live good in your neighbourhood

Big shout to The Rhythm Doctor for playing this wonderful tune by Johnny Cool on his excellent IDA Radio show Waiting Room earlier this week (at 49 minutes in with extra dubbed out bits by RD himself) called Long Time Ago and what a great tune it is!

Also reggae related, by accident this evening we found two hours of The Rootsman talking to the late great Augustus Pablo. Welll worth listening to, all on pirate radio WKLR Radio in Bradford from 1992. Reggae (like radio) never disappoints. Ever.

Weeds up to me knees give a big shout to Chris The Rhythm Doctor who was interviewed on this week’s Gilles Peterson’s breakfast show on Worldwide FM. After a while of waiting for the show to go up online yesterday, the show is now finally up in all its glory on Mixcloud.

At 2.33.00 in there’s an exclusive mix from Chris. Cheers to him for playing two Jasmine Tutum & Madtone tracks alongside lots of great eclectic stuff including the brilliant Don Cavalli “Fire Fire”, Arina Singh and the crazy dub of The Detonators “Lift Off” (which as the legend goes, after hearing it, Jerry Dammers contacted the tune’s producer John Collins and got him to produce The Specials’ Ghost Town).
