Shortwave bargains, bargains, bargains

On Sunday 10th April 2022 at 11pm UK time (10pm UTC) on WRMI on 9395 kHz is the first of a set of transmissions called KBIN if you want to hear something a bit different this weekend. Expect several mixes including some for KMRT and WGTR (Golden Throats Radio).  If you haven’t a shortwave radio use an online software defined radio like this one here and tune into 9395 kHz on the dial. Hearing horns on shortwave radio

Tune into those magic shortwaves tonight Sunday 10th April 2022 at 11pm UK time (10pm UTC) for KDUB vs Radio Clarion via the power of WRMI (the same radio station that broadcasts the mighty This is a music show) on 9395 kHz if you want to hear some horns and dub this weekend. If you haven’t a shortwave radio use an online software defined radio like this one here and tune into 9395 kHz on the dial.

At about 18 mins into the broadcast will be One Deck Pete‘s “Horns and dub on shortwave” mix featuring tracks from Burning Spear, Skin Flesh & Bone/Revolutionaries, King Tubby and more. Tune in and dub out!

WSTL whilst you work

This Sunday coming 13th February (also the launch day of Cities and Memory’s Shortwave Project here) sees WSTL on the shortwaves via WRMI at 2300 UTC on 9395 kHz. The transmission features a whistling themed mix from One Deck Pete called “Give a little whistle” featuring tracks by Joakim, Marcel, Roscoe Wethers and Felix Laband.

Put the kettle on and tune into some clear, high-pitched sounds by forcing breath through a small hole between one’s lips or teeth (or from a kettle, a bird or a train etc etc). Get on the right track

If you love trains tune into CTRN on Sunday 19th September 2021 (repeated on the 26th September) at 2300 UTC/midnight UK time on 9395 kHz in the 31 Metre band via WRMI. Expect rail related tunes, station announcements and a whole lot more.

It also features a mix from One Deck Pete called “Off the rails” featuring tracks by Instantly Distant: Samples, Foley and Field Recordings, The Lamplighters, Commodore 98, Dennis Brown and Dub Syndicate.

So put on your best station master’s uniform, shine your whistle and tune in on Sunday evening. More Sunday night radio fun

This Sunday 22nd August 2021 is a transmission called The Return to KMRT broadcast on WRMI (also home to the excellent This is a music show) at 2300 utc (12 midnight UK time) on 9395 in the 31 metre band. If you haven’t a radio of a shortwave type you can always try a online SDR here at the allotted time.

Talking of supermarkets the original KMRT broadcast from earlier this year is up on the KMTS mixcloud site featuring at 28 minutes in a mix from One Deck Pete called “Buy one get one free”. Tracks from Tyler Newman, Allen Ginsberg, Anima Universalis, Japanese Sound Portrait, Beatz for Food, Lullatone, Cantoma and Z Lovecraft. Tune in and grab yourself a bargain!

Tune into the Skybird

This Sunday 4th July 2021 Free Radio Skybird is being beamed out of the WRMI transmitter from Miami on 9395 kHz at 2300 utc (12 midnight UK time). Expect some free radio goodness from DJ Frederick and the Free Radio Skybird crew. Tune in here on Sunday if you’ve no shortwave radio.

KDUB on WRMI

Just a quick one to report that the KDUB broadcast from earlier this year will be repeated on WRMI this Sunday May 30th at 2300 UTC or Midnight UK time on 9395 kHz on the shortwaves. There’s a mix from One Deck Pete called “In Dub for KDUB” at 3.09 minutes in.

It’s an alternative dimension

From the great WRMI we have another transmission from KSOL – The alternative dimension/universe edition this Sunday/Monday 16th/17th May on 9395 kHz. When the clock strikes 2300 UTC or Midnight UK time expect some chilled tunes including a mini-mix from One Deck Pete at 40 minutes in.

They say you better listen to the voice of reason

As mentioned in the last post Radio Lavalamp will be taking to the shortwaves very soon, as in this Sunday 2nd May 2021 at 2300 UTC (Midnight UK time) on 9395 kHz via WRMI. The show features some chilled tunes and also a mix from One Deck Pete called “The Purple Nucleus of Creation 004” with tracks from Floating Points, London Symphony Orchestra and Pharoah Sanders, Betelgeize ft. Ilya Chistyakov, Tranquility Bass and Hrair. Turn on and tune in.

And on the weekend after (and the one after that) KSOL is back in orbit in a “Satellite of Love” mode. It’ll be broadcast out of Germany via Channel 292 at 2200 UTC (11pm UK time) on 3955 kHz on Saturday the 8th and 15th May 2021.
