Local news

Thanks to Penny Golightly, here’s news of a great little plant mart in Lee next Saturday May 17th from 2-4 p.m. outside 2-6 Micheldever Road, Lee SE12 8LX and the event is a fundraiser to get money to plant more trees in the area. There’ll be a wide range of plants for sale at a good price as well as lots of other stuff (cakes, books and CDs, cream teas and 2 botanical watercolour workshops at 2.30 and 3pm). Looks great! Cheers Penny!

The little greenhouse of terror

Tune in tonight from 6pm to 8pm for The Dirt’s Halloween special on Fab Radio International here. At around 6.15 our weekly spot Sounds From The South will feature a story about a scary Halloween party in a South London pub’s beer garden! Thanks to Maz and Marc B for getting us that invite for a night I’ll never forget!

Ace, very ace!

Thanks to our good friend Will J for letting us know of a great community project in South London called Ace of Clubs. It’s a day shelter just behind Clapham High Street that does all sorts of great work for the homeless, in as much as providing cheap meals, giving out advice on benefits and finding accommodation, IT lessons and internet cafe sessions amongst other beneficial activities.

Also, out the back they had a great allotment style garden that Will kindly snapped for us whilst spending a day there volunteering. The centre gets donations from the big supermarkets and others of potted herbs that they then plant out plus bulbs, bizzy lizzies, and various seeds. Everything they grow is purely from donations. How brilliant is that?

I think we have to give it up for the gardener there who took over the plot last year when it was an overgrown mess and has made it what it is today, a brilliant space! Big up Ace Of Clubs.
