On the way to the peak of normal

Now we’ve reached the winter solstice we’re on the way to longer days and hopefully warmer ones too. This morning was a cold one and there was a frost. The dahlias need forking up, cleaned up and stored indoors and the garden needs a general tidy up before the real cold weather sets in.

For the first time in years we’ll be having Brussels sprouts fresh from the garden on Christmas day as the don’t look like they’ve “blown” (here) and/or nothing’s wiped their rear end on the stalks (see story here). Compared to the ones in the organic shops they’re small but who cares as they look good enough. They take a while to grow and we’ll let you know after Christmas dinner if they tasted alright.

Just after Christmas is the KMTS End of year broadcast on the shortwaves via WRMI on Monday 27th December 2021 at 0000 utc on 9395 kHz. There’s a couple of mixes from One Deck Pete including “The circles of your mind” featuring these two great tunes below. If you haven’t a shortwave radio you can always click here on the afternoon after for the listen again of the show.

Anyway a big cheers to all our friends around the globe (and around the corner) and hope you all have a great festive period and remember it won’t be long now until we can start sowing and get out again, let’s hope 2022 is lots better than 2021.

Unavailable at the garden centre

A couple of years ago we found a very odd looking hand-made coat stand in the street that had been thrown out and since obtaining it have tried with little success to try and grow something up it. We’re trying again this year with some sweet peas. We’ve put some small bamboo sticks in to give the plants a way to get to the main truck and we’re hoping for some climbing action. Perhaps we should just bin the thing but it’s so odd we have to keep it and at least it’s a alternative to the normal bamboo tripod. Who said gardening had to be conventional anyway?

And talking about oddness this thing has just popped up through the soil very close to the pavement in the side bed that has the new fence behind it. We have no idea what it is and we can’t remember sticking anything in that area. It’s a robust looking thing whatever it is. Any ideas?

Don’t forget this Sunday 2nd May 2021 at 2300 UTC (Midnight UK time) Radio Lavalamp will be taking to the shortwaves on 9395 kHz via WRMI which will include “The Purple Nucleus of Creation 004” mix by One Deck Pete with tracks from Floating Points, London Symphony Orchestra and Pharoah Sanders, Betelgeize ft. Ilya Chistyakov, Tranquility Bass and Hrair. Like the weird and wonderful and tunes like the GATS track below? Well tune in on Sunday night and see if there’s more stuff to your liking. If you haven’t a shortwave radio click here at the allotted time.

A little bit of KDUB on KFAI

A big shout to Dr Strangedub and DJ Baby Swiss from the Echo Chamber on KFAI for spreading the word about KDUB the other week and also big thanks in advance to them for broadcasting One Deck Pete‘s “In Dub for KDUB” mix tomorrow morning on the show. The programme goes out in Minneapolis + St. Paul from 2 to 6 am and in the UK that translates from 7 to 11 am. Expect the mix about 8.15 UK time.

It’s a show worth tuning into if you like reggae, dub and the chilled side of life. And do check out their “Around the World in Dub” sets all available for FREE on the Dan Dada records bandcamp here. Big up the Echo Chamber and KFAI!
