Another big big tune from Mungo’s Hi-Fi featuring Cian Finn. This release is very haunting and one that you bellow “Don’t finish!” when it comes to the fade-out. “In a Irish traditional style, in a Scottish traditional style”. We need the dub of this, badly!
Weeds progress report March 2018: The seed trays on the windowsill in the front bedroom are doing well if not on the leggy side (nice article about correcting leggy seedlings here), containing heritage varieties from the Roots & Shoots event and some nice herb and veg seeds from Shannon’s. It’s early days yet but spring really does come around before you know it so it’s best to be prepared!
And the seed potatoes are chitting nicely (above). The hymn sheet-like list to the left corresponds to the seed tray next to it as we’ll probably forget what’s been sown. Roll on spring when we can sow those seeds in situ!
This odd looking thing above is the strange Egyptian or walking onion and nearly ready to do its stuff. In a couple of weeks they’ll be bulblets growing at the top of the plant and possibly where that strange light green junction is on the stalk. We’ll keep you updated. Big shout to Scotch Bonnet Records for letting us know about the latest release from Mungo’s Hi Fi featuring the great vocals of Eva Lazarus called Live my life. Look out for Amsterdam as well from the same project. Both big tunes here at weeds! Available here and here.
There was a frost here Wednesday morning (as we’re sure we saw a white veil over the local cars on the way to work) and hopefully that’ll be it now, even though it’s still a bit parkie outside today.
We’re not taking any chances here for a few days at least, the tomato plants that were outside in the upside down terrarium are now in the back room (that might have to be hardened off a little before they go out) and there’s still fleece over the Easter Sunday sown spuds. And then there’s the brassicas, runner beans and peppers that want to go out, finger’s crossed it won’t be too long now…
And if you have lost a plant or two in the recent frosts here’s a tune for you…

Big shout to Craig from Mungo’s Hi Fi/Scotch Bonnet Records who pointed us in the direction of the chart they did for the excellent dubstore records out of Japan earlier this month. And what a chart it is, there’s some brilliant stuff on this selection.
It includes some corkers, from bass bonkers from Von D, some very very nice modern skanking business from Squarewave/Sukh Knight (what a tune!), some goodies from the Scotch Bonnet label themselves (including Prince Fatty’s The Model!), a nice Wailing Souls on Jammy’s and a whole lot more.
This is a mix to be cranked up loud when you’re getting over a nasty virus (and dreaming of being able to go out and tidy that garden) and one to blow those bad germs away to infinity! Cheers to Craig and all at Mungo’s/Scotch Bonnet and keep up the good work with those cracking tunes!

Big shout to the Mungo’s Hi Fi camp again for this tune by The Hempolics – Love to sing as heard on The Rt Hon David Rodigan’s show last week and are the last few words at the end really “A bad man don’t use ketchup”? We do hope so!
The tune means a lot here as it’s based on possibly one of the first ever reggae tunes we can remember here at weeds, the great Clint Eastwood by Lee Perry. The original has a spoken intro that had us wondering at the time, from which planet does this record originate from?

Big shout to the great Mungo’s Hi-Fi for this one, “Disastrous dub” (available on a lovely 7″ with a nice sleeve by the way, from Scotch Bonnet here.) It’s the b side of their tune with Shanti D & Ranking Levy called Total Disaster which is a killer too.
Let’s hope there’ll be no disasters in the garden today, apart from knocking over that cup of tea while enjoying another gardening tea break. Tune!
