The day the lakes stood still
Cheers to Rich R up in the Lake District for sending us some rather bonkers aurora pics from the other Thursday. Crazy, crazy stuff indeed!
Seeing this cosmic coloured sky, we wouldn’t be suprised if there’s also reports of a Gort-like robot out of The Day The Earth Stood Still seen walking down (carrying a large tote bag of course) to the Village Shop to get some lovely home-made confectionery before he starts his night-shift guarding flying saucers and the like. Cheers Rich for the wonderful pictures. All we can say here is wow!
Big shout going out in the direction of the lakes
A very big thanks to Rich R for sending us some great pictures from the Lake District over the last couple of weeks. The one above is from Derwent Water in Keswick looking towards Borrowdale. My gosh, now you’re talking! And the one below was taken on his evening stroll, you can’t any better view than that in our opinion.
And below is a very odd moon making an appearance up there, the other night below, crazy stuff. The Lake District looks like one wonderful place Rich and ta for the pics, they are always welcomed.
Also cheers for the confectionary goodies emergency parcel (from the excellent Village Shop, Braithwaite) last week from the Lake District Rich. To say they were appreciated was an understatement! Thanks very much for that.
And the musical accompliment to this post is this week’s episode of the always excellent Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Room on IDA Radio (Tallinn). A big cheers to RD for playing Madtone’s WP1 at 54 mins in. It’s a wonderful 2 hour show and well worth listening to.
Calling all the Skywatchers out there
A big hi to Rich R up in the Lake District for sending us this great picture yesterday. As he said “Saw this weirdness in the sky this evening. I wonder if such a phenomenon has a name?” We have no idea what it can be, anyone out there in Weeds land can tell us what it actually is? It really looks great and we have never seen anything like this before.
Is it someone messing around with a mirror or a ship of extraterrestrials landing from 60B, Who knows? Talking of the great planet 60B (the second planet from the sun Kruger if you have forgotten) here is for the millionth time is our favourite ever clip from youtube. You can’t get any better than this.
New beginnings
Thank you to our mate Rich in the Lake District for sending us photographs of the newly formed community allotment in his area. They had a generous farmer donate them some land earlier this year and now the space is a work in progress (above and below). As Rich said “The allotment is in a very special spot and we are really enjoying having a go” (look at the scenery in the background!) and that’s what it’s all about. It’s all about just cracking on, learning by any mistakes, enjoying the many successes and going with the process. Go with the (gardening) flow!
The report so far from Rich: “We have set out loads of small plots and planted all kinds of stuff. Spuds, carrots, rhubarb, turnips and squash. We had lots of donations from others. Apparently there are 2 herds of deer in neighbouring fields but so far nothing has eaten our stuff, which is not only growing nicely, but also not dying! We have planted in about 75% of our huge patch and will be delighted if we manage to get a meal out of it in the end!” That’s great news Rich!
Also Rich told us that his neighbours saw a giant Stag in his back garden the other day. We’ve had reports of Wild Boars in gardens in France from Debby H and now Stags in the Lake District. Blimmin eck, crazy stuff.
We remember a few years ago going to an allotment not far from here and one of the allotmenteers (you can call them that can’t you?) had one big cosy shed with a dartboard, football table (and supposedly a bar but we’re not sure if we were being wound up) and a big BBQ grill outside. By all accounts it was in use as a clubhouse type socialising hotspot from 7am till well after sundown during summer (we’re sure it had outside lighting and fairy lights adorning it too). How the owners and their neighbours had time for actual allotment maintenance we don’t know.
As we reported at one of our Steroid Abuse nights many moons ago (above), allotments are fast becoming the new nightclubs/social clubs/pubs! And why not?
We look forward to more pictures of this horticultural development and to hear about how people have got on with it all there. Thanks again for sharing the pictures Rich!

No complaints about the cold today
Cheers to Rich R in the Lake District for sending us a photo of what the view was the like from his front doorstep on Saturday. Now that looks cold! And to accompany the picture, Rich said “The mountains are still covered this morning but not ground level. A lot of people were posting pics of the northern lights last night.” That is crazy stuff. Keep warm Rich and keep on sending us the pictures.
Tranquility place
Thank you to Rich R for sending us this tranquil scene of what it was like in the Lake District on Sunday just gone. It looks glorious Rich, very relaxing. He was saying it got very windy later and colder weather is forecast sadly. We’ll leave you all with this great snapshot in time!
On a cold and frosty morning

This picture was taken just after the morning snow stopped and he also told us minus 5 is on the cards for tonight. Brrrr, that’s all you need. Keep warm Rich!
By all accounts Forest Hill is supposedly having a couple of cold nights this week so BBC Weather reckons. Anyway here’s an apt named tune from Hoodish Recordings in Tokyo from an artist called MaL (PART2STYLE) and it’s called Powder Snow Dub and a nice tune it is!
