A different class of railway tunes

Here’s a good radio show if you like all things on a train tip. CTRN was originally scheduled for last Sunday but sadly didn’t happen due to a glitch at the sidings. The show will now go ahead this Sunday 24th July via WRMI on 9395 kHz at 2200 utc. Listen in to hear a different class of train tune and the show is dedicated to everyone working on the trains, the train spotters with their electronic notepads and all passengers of course.

And whilst we’re on the subject of trains here’s a few rail related reggae tunes…

The first the flip of Culture & Niccademus‘ Disco Train called Righteous Train complete with speeded up vocals and mad sound effects by the great Joe Gibbs & The Professionals.

And this lively one from Big Joe and King Tubby’s with Rasta Train.

And finally the classic from Linval Thompson & U Brown with Train to Zion. Tickets please!

RIP the great Striker Lee

Yesterday we were very saddened to hear of the passing of the great Jamaican producer/arranger and vibes man Bunny Striker Lee. Watch the above at 2.15 minutes and onwards to see the great man in action with some brill dance moves!

And here’s a Bunny Lee produced classic with some versions that’s been played at the Weeds HQ many many times.

And below is another top tune produced by the great man which will be given an airing on the “Weeds up to me knees dub mix” on Jesse Yuen‘s excellent North of the River Swan show from 4pm-6pm on RMT.FM Radio Thamesmead this Sunday coming.

RIP the great Bunny Striker Lee!  You will be sorely missed but your tunes will live on and on!

Two pennies and a stepper

Three belters of tuneage heard last week, the first two played as part of shows dedicated to the late Penny Reel and the third a stepper and a half as heard on Juno. Turn them on then turn them up!

Don’t touch that (internet) dial

Big shout to Sam for letting us know about this excellent show on Red Bull Radio about the Peckings record shop in Shepherd’s Bush available here. There’s a nice bit of history about the shop and contains some fine tunes as well. Sixty minutes well worth listening to and only up online for another couple of week so get in quick for an audio treat.

I’ve usually have to lose one of these (after xmas)

Prince Allah – Stone b/w King Tubby’s – Great Stone (Freedom Sounds)

A nice tune for a lovely summer’s evening. A great vocal from Keith Blake/Prince Allah with some mad earthquake/explosion samples.

And for the dub side, the word heavy doesn’t even describe it. The late King Tubby was on top form with this one. Crank up that bass, annoy the neighbours (er only if it’s before 10pm as we wouldn’t want to instigate any asbo’s) and big up the King!

Music to watch the ISS (go) by

Stephen Marley feat. Sizzla & Capleton – Rock Stone – Ghetto Youths

A big shout to David Rodigan again for playing this one from Stephen Marley featuring Sizzla and Capleton with a super sample from the Rt Hon Bob Marley!

Johnny Clarke – None Shall Escape The Judgement  King Tubby & The Aggrovators – Version

And the influence, the flying cymbal classic from Johnny Clarke with some help from the great Bunny Lee. And talking of striker, below is Bunny Lee giving it some from 2.15.

Big up all on that big tin thing, the ISS that’s orbiting planet Earth, “Give me a signal” as David Rodigan would say!

There’s a riot going on (in the greenhouse)

Riot (Instrumental Original) – Damian Marley ft. Sean Paul

A slice of bass heaviness played on the David Rodigan 1Xtra show this week, a dub of a tune by Damian Marley featuring Sean Paul produced by Hard Work. A sort of reworking of a classic King Tubby’s tune done over in a 2013 style. Hard as a loaf of White Sunblest three weeks old. Rough!
