Super Cosmos

Cheers to Debby H for letting us know about how her cosmos seedlings are getting on in the last post. We took her lead this week and sowed some of the seeds on Tuesday afternoon and come today we are seeing some results. Wonderful stuff, it didn’t take long did it? Remember 2025 is the year of the cosmos!

And for this sunny Saturday morning here’s a track that was played on the great On The Wire (a radio show well worth listening to as we always say) the other week, a track previously unknown to us here at Weeds from Ijahman Levi called Chariot of Love from 1977 and it’s a great single and now re-released on 7″ with a great dub too!

Radio time machine

Cheers to Karl S for passing on this flyer for a gig in the early 1980’s at Coventry’s premier punk venue The Hand and Heart. We were shocked to learn at the end of the gig a giant fight kicked off. A “ruck” at a gig in Coventry in the early 1980’s? We don’t believe it! Ta for sending us the flyer Karl.

Today we also picked up a repress of the original version of “Jah Heavy Load” by Ijahman Levi. It’s a “must have” reggae tune that a while ago would put you back the cost of a family weekly shop. It was first heard on this show below with John Lydon with Robin Valk on BRMB Radio in Birmingham many many moons ago. The version below is recorded in mono off the medium wave complete with distant stations fading in and out in the background. Radio connects us all.

Baby, it’s cold outside

It’s cold as cold here and it’s time for a good tune to warm up those slippered feet. It’s the original version of Ijahman Levi‘s classic Jah Heavy Load from the grand old year of 1976.

We can’t find the dub of this but the tune in its full glory is played at 2 minutes in on this “recorded straight off the Medium Wave in glorious mono” of John Lydon on BRMB (261 Metres) in interview with Robin Valk from 1979 complete with a european station breaking through in the background with really adds to the recording. A great listen by the way.

Here’s a later released version of the tune with a excellent dub which we really want here. Keep warm out there!
