Stations that only exist in our imagination

Here’s a couple of shortwave shows in an Imaginary Stations related style, the first on Wednesday 19th March 2025 at the new time of 0200 UTC via WRMI is another episode of the excellent Shortwave Music Library by DJ Frederick. A show well worth tuning into if you the like all sorts musicwise.

This weekend coming, Imaginary Stations hoist the sails on the pirate ship Skybird again and brings you another audio voyage in the Free Radio Skybird series and it’s the third and final planned broadcast of the station this year.

Tune in on Saturday 22nd March 2025 at 1200 hrs UTC on 6160 kHz and also on Sunday 23rd March 2025 at 1000/1400 hrs UTC on 6160 kHz and at 2100 UTC on 3975 kHz. As with last week’s show, expect some great tunes, onshore and offshore classics and lots of interesting bits and pieces as usual. At 28 minutes in there will be a mix called Who’d be a pirate (again) by One Deck Pete. Tune in!

 

Shortwave today (and yesterday)

At the end of this/start of next week we have a few transmissions of Skybird Radio International. The first is via Shortwave Gold on Sunday 12th November 2023 at 1000/1400 hrs UTC on 6160 kHz and 2100 UTC on 3975 kHz is a special Peruvian edition so expect some wonderful music in a true South American style.

A few hours later in the early hours of Monday 13th November via the transmitters of WRMI we have a different episode of Skybird Radio International at 0300 UTC on 9395 kHz and then repeated at 0400 UTC on 9455 kHz. At 35 minutes in is a mix from One Deck Pete featuring tunes by Madtone, Huamansara, The Yamasukis, International Dub Ambassasadors, Wimeanacas Cambodian Band and Frank Gutowski Trio. Tune in chill out and listen to the sound of this world of ours.

This Sunday 4th July 2021 Free Radio Skybird is being beamed out of the WRMI transmitter from Miami on 9395 kHz at 2300 utc (12 midnight UK time). Expect some free radio goodness from DJ Frederick and the Free Radio Skybird crew. Tune in here on Sunday if you’ve no shortwave radio.

And now the end is near

The final Free Radio Skybird programme of this year (bar the repeat two weeks later) is on Sunday November 21st at 1200 UTC on 6070 kHz via Channel 292.

A shortwave radio weekend

It’s a double dose of DJ Frederick‘s radio projects over the shortwaves this weekend. This Saturday 8th of August 2020 there’s the 2019 remix broadcast of Free Radio Skybird via Radio Onda in Europe on 5940 kHz at 1800 UTC (1900 UK time.) Listen out for One Deck Pete’s Sounds of the shortwave at 24.50 minutes in. On Sunday 9th August 2020 (and repeated the week after) at 2200 UTC (11pm UK time) on 3955 kHz via Channel 292 is Radio Lavalamp. The transmission will feature in One Deck Pete with a mix at 23 minutes in called The Purple Nucleus of Creation 002 featuring some great tunes from Drowsii, Nayl, Tabitha Project, Seventh Soul & Homayoun Shajarian and Camille Murray. Here’s a recording off an online SDR of today’s One Deck Pete’s “Tunes to cheer you up” which was transmitted on Free Radio Skybird via Channel 292. This is the fifth episode in the series and this week it’s an exclusive of an early mix of a new tune from Jazz’min & Madtone with “Return to the branches”. Apologies for the non Hi-Fi quality but that’s what you get with that wireless thingy.

Tomorrow’s music yesterday

This Sunday 21st June sees the last in the present schedule of DJ Frederick’s Free Radio Skybird until the autumn. So tune in at 1100 UTC on 6070 kHz in the 49 Metre shortwave band via Channel 292 and if you haven’t got a suitable radio it can also be heard on the SDR link on their site here.
