Cheers to Karl S for passing on this flyer for a gig in the early 1980’s at Coventry’s premier punk venue The Hand and Heart. We were shocked to learn at the end of the gig a giant fight kicked off. A “ruck” at a gig in Coventry in the early 1980’s? We don’t believe it! Ta for sending us the flyer Karl.

Today we also picked up a repress of the original version of “Jah Heavy Load” by Ijahman Levi. It’s a “must have” reggae tune that a while ago would put you back the cost of a family weekly shop. It was first heard on this show below with John Lydon with Robin Valk on BRMB Radio in Birmingham many many moons ago. The version below is recorded in mono off the medium wave complete with distant stations fading in and out in the background. Radio connects us all.

Ball Hill calling to the faraway towns

We took a trip to Coventry the other weekend and popped into the Coventry Music Museum/Two Tone Village in Ball Hill Village. We spotted the lesser spotted Ded Yampy fanzine wedged between two King singles (one of them was even signed!)

They don’t half love their tomatoes up there as at the Music Museum we spotted a couple of plants outside, we would have loved it even more if the variety was called two tone or something like that. They looked healthy enough as well.

Also walking up Albany Road later on almost opposite Jerry Dammer’s old flat we spotted a table of tomato plants with “Free. Please help yourselves!” We do like a sign saying that, did they mean we could take the table thing as well we wonder?

And the tune for tonight is sadly not from Coventry but from Iceland from Leik with Toy center at night and a lovely little tune it is too. One going out to our Coventry and Birmingham friends around this gardening globe of ours.

An afternoon of zinesThanks to Fliss C for letting us know about the next fanzine related event at Putney Library, 5-7 Disraeli Road, Putney SW15 2DR on Saturday 7th May 2016 from 2-5pm.

They’ll welcome everyone who’s interested in fanzines especially people who are new to the subject too as they’re having a library for people to sample zines. Fliss herself is having an exhibition there celebrating her 20 years of my zine work. Brilliant stuff! More info here. She’s picked a very apt tune to accompany this piece.

And if you love all those old Punk fanzines take a look at the “Bored Teenagers” fanzine page (which features our old fanzine Ded Yampy alongside loads of others of that time.)

Big cheers to the “Ranting Poetry, Sweary Poetry, Boozy Poetry” blog, Stand Up and Spit for featuring my fanzine from 1980, Ded Yampy in today’s post (here).

steroid abuse london club flyerLast weekend I uploaded some Steroid Abuse flyers and my old fanzine Ded Yampy from many moons ago to the blog so they’re up on the web for prosperity. Have a butchers at “Fanzines, flyers and flymo’s” and also the updated “The man and his music”. Roll on the good weather so I can get out in the garden or the next posts will feature the contents of my loft!
