Upon the shortwaves this Sunday

There’s a couple of things on the shortwaves this Sunday 15th January 2023. The first being the repeat of the CBRG show from the Imaginary Stations crew that was broadcast on WRMI a few weeks ago which will be broadcast to Europe via Channel 292 on 6070 kHz at 12 noon UTC.

The second is a tribute to travel show called KBUS to be broadcast later on at 2300 UTC via WRMI on 9395 kHz. Trains, boats and planes and a lot more! Fasten your seatbelts and tune in.

The trumpets sound, the angels sing

A week tomorrow (and the Sunday after) Radio Clarion takes to the shortwaves via Channel 292 with a trumpet themed broadcast. Tune in on your shortwave radio or by clicking here at 1200 UTC on Sunday 23rd/30th January on 9670 kHz.

Shortwave’s not dead (it’s not even knackered)

It’s a few weeks away but here’s news of the summer test transmission from KMTS. It’s going to be transmitted via Channel 292 on 6070 kHz at 1700 UTC (6pm UK time) on Tuesday 27th July and repeated the week after on Tuesday 3rd August. If you’ve no shortwave radio tune in here.

Expect the usual strange tones, interval signals and 1970’s test card classics plus a mix called “Shortwave’s not dead” from One Deck Pete with tracks by Gentle Friendly, Madtone, Afterlife and Holger Czukay (above). For a taste of what’s to come have a listen to the first test transmission from KMTS broadcast last December.

And here’s one of the radio related tunes broadcast on that transmission from the great Triptica.

Out of the storm

Fog on the 49 Metre band

KFOG takes to the high seas via Channel 292 on Sunday June 20th 2021 at 1200 utc (1 pm UK time) and on Saturday June 26th at 0900 utc (10 am UK time) on 6070 kHz. Expect tunes in a nautical style and “see the glimmer from a distant lighthouse, as the buoys ding and the (radio) waves crash onto the rocky shore. This is music from the mist!” as they say at KFOG HQ.

Expect a mix from One Deck Pete called “A mix from across the Pond” with tunes from Kiyoko, Honeychild & DJ Olive, BOATS, Robert Mellin and The Congo’s. Grab yourself a lifejacket and a shortwave radio and tune in. If the shortwave radio is a problem tune in here at the alloted time. If you haven’t a lifejacket we’re sorry but we can’t help you with that!

In the Air Tonight

In a few hours time the intergalactic and the very interdimensional sounds of KSOL will be back in orbit on the shortwaves. The satellite of love will hopefully be keeping out of the way of the Long March 5B rocket body which is heading to earth too (we’re keeping our fingers crossed that the rocket body lands in the middle of nowhere or in the ocean).

Tune in on 3955 kHz via Channel 292 at 2200 UTC (11pm UK time). The show will also be repeated next Saturday the 15th May at the same time. Radio conditions are good this evening and if by chance you haven’t a shortwave radio give this SDR a go here.

Expect a mix called “In Orbit” from the urban spaceman One Deck Pete at about 35 mins in which’ll feature tunes by A Man Called Adam, Rubin Steiner, Rockers Interplanetary and this great tune by AVEM. #KSOL #shortwavesnotdead #shortwavelistening #channel292

And talking of good tunes here’s one we were directed to on friday by L.S.Diezel called Volume 1 that has a lovely Yabby You sample in it. #dubsnotdead

UPDATE: And here’s the studio audio of KSOL with One Deck Pete‘s “In Orbit” mix at 35 mins in.

Lidl and soul

We made a nice purchase from the centre aisle of Lidl this week, another Clematis Montana (Cheers to Nancy B for the original recommendation a couple of years ago). It went in yesterday with a good bit of water. Let’s hope it can stand the weather over Monday and Tuesday next week where it may be down to minus 1! It would be very nice to think that the variety was named after the great Vincent Montana too, you never know.

And talking of of soul and good vibes KSOL “The sound of sunshine and soul on shortwave” takes to the airwaves in a couple of weeks time on 9670 kHz at 1500 UTC (2pm UK time) on Sunday April 18th and repeated on April 25th 2021. There’s a mix by One Deck Pete called “A bit of sunshine and soul” which’ll feature tunes by Jackie Lee & Delores Hall, Cat Stevens, George McCrae, Carl Bean and Love Unlimited. Tune in for some so(u)lar warmth and after next week we reckon we’ll be needing some! #soulonshortwave #shortwavesnotdead

20 years of radio fun

More shortwave radio fun coming this weekend on the 75 Metre band courtesy of Channel 292. A transmission to mark the 20th anniversary of All Indie Radio (WAIR) will be broadcast this Sunday 7th February 2021 (and repeated on Sunday 14th February 2021) at 1700 UTC/UK on 3955 kHz. Tune in for some great music.

The programme features our good friends from across the pond DJ Frederick, Justin Patrick Moore and a mix from One Deck Pete called “Thank You John Peel” (more on the late great John Peel here) with tracks by Mogwai, McCarthy, Young Marble Giants, Stereolab and Orange Juice.

No shortwave radio? No bother, tune in here at the allotted time.

And now the end is near

The final Free Radio Skybird programme of this year (bar the repeat two weeks later) is on Sunday November 21st at 1200 UTC on 6070 kHz via Channel 292.

It features DJ Frederick, Justin Patrick Moore with The Radiophonic Laboratory and Weed’s own One Deck Pete with “Tunes to cheer you up.” Tune in!  #shortwavesnotdead #freeradioskybird
