Fog on the 49 Metre band

KFOG takes to the high seas via Channel 292 on Sunday June 20th 2021 at 1200 utc (1 pm UK time) and on Saturday June 26th at 0900 utc (10 am UK time) on 6070 kHz. Expect tunes in a nautical style and “see the glimmer from a distant lighthouse, as the buoys ding and the (radio) waves crash onto the rocky shore. This is music from the mist!” as they say at KFOG HQ.

Expect a mix from One Deck Pete called “A mix from across the Pond” with tunes from Kiyoko, Honeychild & DJ Olive, BOATS, Robert Mellin and The Congo’s. Grab yourself a lifejacket and a shortwave radio and tune in. If the shortwave radio is a problem tune in here at the alloted time. If you haven’t a lifejacket we’re sorry but we can’t help you with that!

And now the end is near

The final Free Radio Skybird programme of this year (bar the repeat two weeks later) is on Sunday November 21st at 1200 UTC on 6070 kHz via Channel 292.

It features DJ Frederick, Justin Patrick Moore with The Radiophonic Laboratory and Weed’s own One Deck Pete with “Tunes to cheer you up.” Tune in!  #shortwavesnotdead #freeradioskybird

Travelling by tube during lockdown

DJ Frederick sails solo on the shortwaves on Free Radio Skybird this Sunday November 8th 2020 at 1200 UTC on 6070 kHz via Channel 292 as part of the station’s tenth anniversary. Then in a fortnight’s time the whole crew return for their final broadcast of the year. Tune in this weekend for some interesting listening! #freeradioskybird #freeradio #shortwavesnotdead #valvesnotdead

On the shortwaves on Sunday

It’s DJ Frederick‘s Free Radio Skybird on shortwave this Sunday 11th October (and repeated the week after.) The broadcast goes out at 1100 UTC (12 Noon UK time) on 6070 kHz via Channel 292. There’s a great piece on Numbers stations, Justin Patrick Moore‘s Radiophonic Laboratory and One Deck Pete with “Tunes to cheer you up.” Tune in! #shortwavesnotdead #freeradioskybird

And through the magic of amplitude modulation…

Here’s a recording off an online SDR of today’s One Deck Pete’s “Tunes to cheer you up” which was transmitted on Free Radio Skybird via Channel 292. This is the fifth episode in the series and this week it’s an exclusive of an early mix of a new tune from Jazz’min & Madtone with “Return to the branches”. Apologies for the non Hi-Fi quality but that’s what you get with that wireless thingy.

One alternative to lockdown lunacy

This Sunday coming 26th April 2020, DJ Frederick’s Free Radio Skybird will be broadcasting another show in its weekly spring run at 1100 UTC (1200 UK) on 6070 kHz via Channel 292.

This week’s episode features Justin Patrick Moore’s Radiophonic Laboratory and One Deck Pete’s “Radio connects us all” mix featuring Patrick McGoohan, Sasskia, Mokka and Camille Murray. We’ve also the debut of Shane Quentin from the excellent Garden of Earthly Delights radio show who’s bringing us a bit of “Radio Re-flex-ology”.

Tune in using your shortwave radio in the 49 Metre band on 6070 kHz or by using the link here. It’s going to be one interesting hour!

When does the weekend actually start during lockdown?

The big lockdown’s a lot better when the sun’s out, but it was cold and grey today in SE23 so spirits were dampened. It don’t look that better tomorrow so any gardening jobs will have to wait. Saying that, the single teabags and the odd banana skin still have to be taken down the compost heap one by one so we still can pick out the odd weed by hand on the way back up to the house, so gardening won’t stop, it’ll just be on a slower scale!

Even though there’s no frost predicted here, the spuds and the other early vegetable seedlings are safe and warm under the Blue Peter type cold-frame constructions and the few dahlia tubers we put in (far too early) this week are covered with the plastic mini-cloche type things we found in the street a long while ago.

Here’s a picture of happy gardening climes earlier this week before the sun went away and the below is a lovely bit of dub from Camille Murray called Find Your Way To Love which will be featured on the “Radio connects us all” mix to be broadcast on shortwave on Free Radio Skybird on Sunday April 26th at 1100UTC via Channel 292. Don’t let the lockdown get you down too much, it will end just as you are getting used to it.

Weekending and chilled

An excellent instrumental (the vocal side from Kahina Quali is top too!) from the great Blundetto with Booker Gee out of Paris, France to wind you down for the working week ahead.

If all goes well this one will be aired alongside other quality tunes from Frapp, Lama’s Dream and Mario Pinosa Trio in a mix called “Nine and a half minutes at ninety bpm” broadcast on the next transmission of Free Radio Skybird on New Years Eve at 09:00 UTC on 6070 kHz which will be repeated on Sunday January 5th at 12:00 UTC on 7440 kHz. Get your set set.

Here’s a random pic from the blog to remind ourselves of how things are in the garden when the weather is nice as it’s been a while since we’ve set foot in out there let alone stick a fork in the ground!
