Here’s the audio of yesterday’s transmission from Imaginary Stations, a show called XRPT, a compilation of Imaginary Stations shows past, present and future. It’s an interesting listen and includes contributions from all the crew, DJ Frederick, Justin Patrick Moore and at 21 minutes in is a mix from One Deck Pete called Bits and Pieces (nothing to do with Smiley Miley and The Radio 1 Roadshow of course!)

To coincide with Gusty Ferro‘s Hello Neighbours, The Solidarity Sound System presents an evening of dub sounds and sonic experimentation.
From reverbs, echoes, and classic dub tunes, to low-frequency bass and experimental electronic aural affects, dub’s vast musical influence includes Hip Hop, Techno, D&B, Jungle, Drill and more. But Dub’s wider social legacy is its construction of sonic and social free spaces, that parallel its emphasis on the modification, reuse and alteration of sound. DJs and performers include: Gusty Ferro, members of the Electronic Audio Club, Jesse Yuen, Florent Caillibotte, One Deck Pete, Diet Cola Sounds with more tbc. The Solidarity Sound System is a community sound system built by members of RTM and the wider community in 2021 with the support of artist Clara Smith and funded by Three Rivers Bexley.
And in the afternoon of the 26th, Jesse Yeun will be presenting his excellent North Of The River Swan show live from TACO! from 4-6 pm with One Deck Pete playing a few records and having a bit of a natter. Tune in next Saturday at 4ish on the listen live link on this page here. This tune below may be played or may not.
We were going to post up an episode of North Of The River Swan but here’s another programme presented by Jesse called Golden Apples in Dub which features a great version excursion of “Baby I Love you so”/”King Tubby meets the rockers uptown” featuring a few different tunes we’d never heard of before including this one which is excellent!
Then after that feature ends is this wonderful tune from Bandulu which we still have on a John Peel show cassette somewhere. We forgotten how good it is and it was nice to hear it again. Tune in to RTM FM next week at 4pm.
While going through some tracks this evening we found this excellent dub from Leo James called Daydream In Dub featuring one Ed Gooden.
It’s brilliant stuff and doesn’t even feel like the seven minute track it is. When we saw the length of the track we initially thought “that’s going to go on for a bit” but the truth of the matter is it could go on for much longer for us here. Wonderful stuff from way back in 2016. The 12″ is £34 on discogs which is a bit out of our reach but a super tune anyway.
And another slumber related tune, this time from the great “Sleepy” himself Horace Andy with Krak in Dub from Paris with “Stop borrow dub”. It’s on an uptempo tip and one to be played loud!
So nice the intstrumental has got to be played too!
Here’s the audio of yesterday’s Shortwave Gold broadcast of Skybird Radio International on 3975/6160 kHz.
The show is all about grooves from around this world of ours but this time it’s about the instrumental. There’s some wonderful eclectic music in a true worldwide style as usual from all of the Imaginary Stations DJ’s including DJ Frederick and Justin Patrick Moore.
At 29 seconds in is a mix from One Deck Pete, here’s the tracklistings: Madtone – Diamonds in the sky (excerpt)
Hermanos Gutiérrez – Cumbia Lunar
Mouth – Ooh, Ahh, Yeah
BackYard Riddims/Tommy Khosla (Sitar) – SchaantiDub
Bob Keene Orchestra – Comin’ on Again
The Supersonics – Second Fiddle
Have a listen to the show as it’s brilliant and you’re welcome to add the singing bits yourself!
A very big thanks to Rich R for sending us some great pictures from the Lake District over the last couple of weeks. The one above is from Derwent Water in Keswick looking towards Borrowdale. My gosh, now you’re talking! And the one below was taken on his evening stroll, you can’t any better view than that in our opinion.
And below is a very odd moon making an appearance up there, the other night below, crazy stuff. The Lake District looks like one wonderful place Rich and ta for the pics, they are always welcomed.
Also cheers for the confectionary goodies emergency parcel (from the excellent Village Shop, Braithwaite) last week from the Lake District Rich. To say they were appreciated was an understatement! Thanks very much for that.
And the musical accompliment to this post is this week’s episode of the always excellent Rhythm Doctor’s Waiting Roomon IDA Radio (Tallinn). A big cheers to RD for playing Madtone’s WP1 at 54 mins in. It’s a wonderful 2 hour show and well worth listening to.
A big shout to our good friend actoss the pondJustin Patrick Moore (of the excellent The Radio Phonics Laboratory Bookhere) for passing on this great piece of electronica. It’s from GLOK / Timothy Clerkin with a lovely track called Empyrean. Starts pretty bonkers and gets even better, it’s a catchy bit of electronic malarkey. No idea what it reminds us of but it is great. Cheers Justin!
Big thanks to Mike G and Julia (Ace photos as usual by the way Julia!) for sending pictures of their wonderful dahlias that have been loving the decent weather up there near Coventry for the last two days. The black dahlia (above) is really something else!
The one above is another favourite of ours, a classic of dahlias! And as for the orange one below… We’ll be buying some tubers for the spring, we will.
And these pictures have given us an excuse to repost up an example of that rare genre called dahlia dub from Madtone called A dahlia state of mind.
And another dahlia themed track this time by Asta Hiroki.
Here’s the audio of yesterday’s Skybird Radio International which was broadcast via the services of Shortwave Gold. It’s all about grooves from around this world of ours and there’s some wonderful eclectic music in a true worldwide style from all of the Imaginary Stations including DJ Frederick and Justin Patrick Moore.
At 03.28 there’s a mix from One Deck Pete and here’s the tracklistings:
Madtone – Diamonds in the sky (excerpt)
Entjar Tjarmedi, Enip Sukanda, et al – Berber Lajar
Narcy – Bedaya
Leik – Toy Center at night
Los Zheros – Para Chachita Dr Charty – Falling in Dub
So tune in and enjoy the show with just under an hour of worldwide tunes!
Here’s a nice piece of cut and paste dub sitar business fromRichard Houghten out of California called SitarDub funnily enough. Once you get into that looped groove it’s hard to get out of it! Enjoy.
We’re just putting another shortwave mix together and picked this tune from Tommy McCook & The Supersonics called Second Fiddle. It starts off with a “Popeye the sailor man” type motif then into a very interesting rock steady number.
Then we found out by accident that The Incredible String Band did a cover of it. Well we never knew that! There’s a lot we don’t know we reckon, music is one big can of beans.
