Oi pal, you’re standing on me ceremonial cloak

Happy Midsummer/Solstice/Longest day to you all and contrary to popular belief it’s not all downhill from here, the hours of sunlight just get that little bit shorter that’s all. There’s still a good few months to enjoy in the garden and good weather is forecast for this week coming in London so John Craven said on Countryfile last week.

To celebrate the longest day here’s some poppies we’ve spotted of late, one on the road (pic below) but mostly in the Weeds garden.

And if you weren’t at Stonehenge at the crack of dawn this morning just stick this on below and watch the action replay. Good vibes to all and do raise a glass to the longest day!

And if you want to listen to a good midsummer type mix, put this great Laut & Luise one on for some nice downbeat business.

Back to our old ways

Years ago we were fascinated by the strange looking Egyptian Walking Onion plant and the great (and official may we add) website of the plant here which has a UFO/”Out there” quality to it that makes us smile.

It’s been a few years since any Walking Onions have surfaced in our garden so we’ve just bought a couple of plants on ebay and hope this summer to have a few of the onions “walking” across our vegetable beds. Have a look online about the plant and see if you fancy having a go too. They are very odd looking and are a bit of a talking point (and possibly you may be able to get in touch with alien beings judging by the graphics on the official site but we cannot guarantee that what with COVID). We’ll keep you updated on the plants as soon as they come in. EWO’s are the next big thing we’ve just been told!

Breakfast in Hokkaido

A big shout to Stevyn Iron Feather Journal‘s Towne Club Records collection of remixes and alternate versions of Pink Floyd’s Alan’s Psychedelic Breakfast which are all up in their glory here. It features a remix (below) by our very own Madtone called Pete’s Ambient Breakfast.

This tune later formed the basis of Jazz’min & Madtone‘s Earth Citizen which was featured on Echo Chamber – Around The World In Dub Vol 9 & 10 by Dan Dada Records a set well worth downloading here and it’s all for FREE as are all of the Around The World in Dub series are.

Stevyn has informed us that they are still seeking remixes, dubs, edits, extended, cover versions, mashups, etc. of this song done in any genre or styles. There’s no rules so give it your all and send him your creations. If you like a good read of all things on a different tip have a butchers at Iron Feather Journal here.

You’re listening to KDUB, KAY DUB

This Sunday 7th March 2021 (and repeated a week later) at 12 noon UTC/UK sees a transmission by KDUB on 9670 kHz in 31 Metre band on shortwave. There’s a whole hour of some great drum and bass heavy music including a mix by One Deck Pete called “In Dub for KDUB”. If you haven’t a shortwave radio to hand click here at 12 noon this Sunday. Also check the KMTS mixcloud site here after transmission for a recording of the whole show.

And here’s a tune that isn’t on KDUB but it is a classic and a tune with the great Mark Perry on vocals, Alternative TV with Life After Life from that grand old year of 1977.

And while we there, here’s a cover by Mark Perry of The Whole World’s Down On Me by Ken Boothe and B.B. Seaton another tune we love by Mark P!

Fingers numb and faces aglow

There was a little bit of sunshine today in Forest Hill but it was bitterly cold as we brought the potato and brussels sprouts peelings down to the compost heap. There’s some sort of storm a brewing tomorrow evening we’ve been told too. That’s all we need.

Have a good festive season! May the Bailey’s be a flowing and there’s no end of turkey sarnies on white bread for the time being (until you get bored of them). May the spring come around soon and things get back to some sort of new normal in the very near future.

Dubbing is a must

Next Sunday 11th October 2020 One Deck Pete will be presenting an hour’s “Weeds up to me knees dub mix” on Jesse Yuen‘s excellent North of the River Swan (a show featuring music of the downtempo, dub and bass variety) show from 4pm-6pm on RMT.FM Radio Thamesmead. Pete’s mix will commence around 5pm and to tune in click here. Expect dub of the old and new. Here’s the last show from July below to give you a sample of the top tunes played.

And this excellent tune from Tyler Ov Gaia called A Portal into another world will be thrown into pete’s mix for go measure. Tune in next week!
