The polytunnel is now up and we are in business! There’s nowt much in there now apart from some assorted chillies, a few different types of tomatoes and some freshly sown spinach but we’re sure that’ll change in a week or so.
It took us a good morning and a bit of “That isn’t the right piece, where’s 5B?”, the thing falling apart and it looking like a skeleton of a whale on the lawn, and parts moving when they weren’t supposed to but we got there in the end. After a good tighten up, the frame was put into place (above). Thanks to Alan C for lots of tips, especially this great one: “I put a layer of woodchip under mine but some use wood strips or gravel/stones. This gives a nice evenly flat base and slows the frame rusting – the woodchip quickly dries out and separates the poles from the soil.”
As soon as we put the cover on we dug a little trench and tucked the excess of the cover into the ground and put broken concrete slabs, bricks and whathaveyou to weigh it down and then backfilled with soil and more woodchip so it is hopefully stays put in the wind.
As we said there’s not much in there at the moment but we’ll update you. Cheers to Alan C again for his tips and advice. Big up all Polytunnel crew!

Looks just the job! Hopefully it will withstand the ravages of climate change. Is it time to start prepping o ask myself.

Very busy around here at the moment and the tourists are causing all kinds of traffic problems. Another serious crash yesterday, road shut all afternoon. I don’t think it was as bad as the crash in Middlesbrough.
I think you might be in for another heatwave in September so don’t get the woolies out yet. Here we had 3 C the other night!

Not much going on here apart from the last bit of tourist madness playing out over the next couple of weeks. Having a holiday first week of September.
Went to museum near Annan called the Devil‘s Porridge last week. It was on the site of a massive factory constructed in 1915 along with a whole urban infrastructure to support it in order to make artillery shells for the first world war. It was staffed almost entirely by young women. It also continued to be in use throughout World War II and also the Korean war. It was recommissioned for the Falklands war.
It is of special interest to Daphne whose grandmother at the age of 16 came from the north east of England to work in the factory. Daphne has been speaking to archivists there to see if they have any further information about her grandmother‘s activities. Interesting but grim.
Making plans for next year and hopefully delegating a lot more before age takes control of our lives. Still having health issues but have another appointment in September with a consultant to talk about managing my condition.
Just saw a Weaving Gold Cushions post. There’s some lovely items there. I hope the market goes well.
Yes you’re likely to get another heatwave. I’m not really going to be a prepper but I am concerned about food supplies and shortages which are inevitable. Potato sizes are already 25% smaller in uk this year. A further 25% of the world’s wheat is getting blown up by the opposing sides in the Black Sea. Ships can’t pass through the Panama Canal due to drought and next year is predicted to be even hotter. Maybe a bigger freezer and more cupboards a re needed!

Still pursuing the lifelong battle against the bindweed in my little garden! The recent spot of rain has encouraged it to redouble its efforts, but I’ll never let it start climbing up my antenna pole.
